How the PAPJC  Began
In the spring of 2003, Judy Stach, a Monmouth County resident and signature member of Plein Air Florida,  realized there
was no formally organized group of plein air painters working near New Jersey's central coast. Working with the Guild of
Creative Art in Shrewsbury, she sent out an e-mail to its members about forming a group to work out of doors  with oil paint,
pastels, watercolors, and other media. Five artists initially responded and the group grew to ten members  by the second
week. By the end of the first year, the Plein Air Painters of the Jersey Coast had 30 artists painting together.  By the summer
of 2005, general members and friends of the group numbered over 75. The group continues to add more dedicated artists
each year.

The artists meet every Monday morning  at a predetermined painting location at or near the New Jersy coast.  Members work
with a variety of media including, acrylics, oil paint, watercolor, pastels, and pen and ink. They return to the same location the
following week.  After the second morning, the group has a critque of the work painted during the past two sessions.  In the
past few years, the group has visited numerous beautiful locations in the Jersey Shore area. The ocean, local rivers, parks,
farms, and forests have been included as part of the groups' painting subjects. The members of the PAPJC are hearty souls
who  don't let the season or weather keep them from painting.   Whether working on gloriously perfect days, under balconies
on soggy days, in the snow in winter, at the waterfront in the teeming rain, or on hazy, hot, and humid summer days, these
artists are determined to pursue their love of painting en Plein Air.
